In his almost 4 decades of practicing dentistry, Mark S. Offenback, DDS, has seen a good number of burs come and go-—and he’s certain it’s only the best that survive the constantly changing and highly competitive world of the dental marketplace. While he’s tried dozens of burs in his Longwood, FL, practice over the years, the general dentist places Microcopy burs at the top of his list for efficiency and durability.

“I am a private practice clinician and I’ve been toiling behind handpieces for 39 years now,” he shared. “The Microcopy burs make my job easier and they seem to always be the correct shape for my needs. In fact, I believe my handpiece almost seems to be in ‘automatic’ mode when I use these high quality burs because their concentricity and smooth cutting qualities seem to glide my handpiece into the ideal preparation.”

Whisks Away Debris

For Dr. Offenback and many general dentists who share a similar workflow every day, Microcopy’s burs just got even better with the introduction of NeoSpiral diamond burs, the company’s latest addition to its NeoDiamond product line. NeoSpiralis an economical, single-patient-use diamond bur. The superior hardness and longevity of the diamonds offer exceptional cutting performance and precise, crisp margins. The superior cutting performance of NeoSpiral offers benefits for both sides of the dental chair: a significant increase to workflow efficiency while less chair time for patients. Along with great cutting performance, NeoSpiral diamonds are designed with unique cooling spiral channels that direct water flow and debris, a feature that maximizes efficiency and one that Dr. Offenback finds particularly helpful in his crown and bridge workflow.

“I recently had the privilege of trying out these NeoSpiral burs in my setups and my assistants all know they are my favorites!” Dr. Offenback said. “It makes logical sense that the spiral channels whisk away water and debris. They seem to act as a tread on a quality car tire, channeling water away from the working surfaces.” Packaged in boxes of 25, NeoSpiral burs feature a 1.8-mm head and a 1.4-mm tip, and are offered in 5 round-end taper shapes and 1 football shape, all in a coarse grit.

“I have used NeoSpiral diamond burs for dozens of preps for my crown and bridge work,” Dr. Offenback shared. “I strive to make every prep an ‘A’ prep, and I critique myself as if I was still in dental school!”

High-Quality Standards

As with the rest of Microcopy’s NeoDiamond burs, NeoSpiral features a Swiss-made XactFit shank that ensures integrity and adheres to the strictest shank diameter tolerance in the industry, paving the way for precise, crisp margins and predictable performance.

“Their smooth, rapid cut allows for a shorter prep time, which reduces patient fatigue,” Dr. Offenback shared. “Their smoothness in cutting reduces mental tension for my patients because they experience less vibratory stress. Yet, even though they are smooth, they are also efficient, reducing enamel and dentin bulk with exceptional cutting efficacy. The spiral channels do not seem to get clogged with debris.”

Always Fresh, Always Sharp

Following in the footsteps of Microcopy’s award-winning distinction for being the leading manufacturer of single-patient-use diamond burs in the dental industry, NeoSpiral burs are also gamma-sterilized and individually wrapped and packaged in a clear poly packet for easy identification and convenience. The single-patient-use feature ensures a fresh, clean, and fast cut every time for enhanced workflow efficiency; eliminates cross-contamination and hygienic concerns for patients and staff; and trades the time dental staff devote to autoclaving for increased workflow efficiency and better patient care.

“Single-patient-use burs are always ready, always sharp, and always prevent cross-contamination—just grab a new one and keep on going!” Dr. Offenback added. “These burs seem to instill confidence, and I’ve found that with their smoothness and cutting efficacy, my patients are pleased that a once-traumatic visit has been reduced to only a few minutes.”

Reliable and efficient, Microcopy’s NeoDiamond burs provide precise, crisp margins with the safety and security of single-patient-useneodiamond best product 2

Whether they’re flames and cones or eggs and cylinders, all burs share one thing in common: they are the most common “go-to” instrument in today’s operatories. Available in hundreds of shapes, sizes, and grits, and an indispensable part of daily workflows, burs need to be strong, sharp, and exact, and for those reasons and several more, many dentists choose NeoDiamond burs from Microcopy.

For Kent Caserta, DDS, of Willoughby, OH, the decision about which burs to stock in his operatory has always been an easy one.

The Search For A Durable Diamond

“A few years ago, I was looking for diamond burs and wanted burs that would hold up a bit better than what I was using,” Dr. Caserta explained. “I ordered some from Microcopy and I liked them, especially the durability. It’s easy to order them online, and they’re sent very quickly after you place the order.”

The #1 single-patient-use diamond available today, NeoDiamond burs are made with 20% more diamond exposure, which means faster cuts and less chair time. Microcopy combined advanced Triton bonding technology into its NeoDiamond line of burs, which means 20% more cutting surface is exposed, while also adding longevity, resulting in precise and crisp margins. The Swiss-made XactFit shank means NeoDiamond burs will never “walk out” of their handpiece. Additionally, every NeoDiamond bur arrives gamma-sterilized and individually wrapped and packaged in a clear poly packet for easy identification and storage, while ensuring effective infection control and eliminating cross-contamination concerns.

Single-Patient-Use

“I think the single-patient-use aspect of NeoDiamond burs is very reassuring to patients—they see that the bur is only used for them and that I dispose of it as soon as we’re done,” Dr. Caserta said. “I also think my staff is more comfortable because we don’t have to be concerned with cross-contamination issues with these burs.”

With a product line that includes dozens of shapes, sizes, and grits, NeoDiamond burs can be used for a variety of restorative and surgical procedures. The wide selection means many dentists quickly find their go-to bur.

“I like the football shape and I use it to adjust zirconium crowns and to prep upper anterior teeth on the linguals,” Dr. Caserta shared. “I also find that the football diamond does a really nice job with adjusting composites and maintains the smoothness, too.”

Wide Selection Of Grits

NeoDiamond burs are available in coarse, medium, fine, and very fine grits. Additionally, NeoDiamond Z-Class Zirconia Burs are designed specifically for cutting and adjusting zirconia.

“I also frequently use the round end taper bur, which does a nice job because of its sharpness and coarseness—it makes preparation a lot faster for crowns,” Dr. Caserta explained. “I am able to work efficiently,” he added.

Cost Efficiency

Also on the minds of most dentists these days is cost-efficiency, and in that regard, Microcopy’s NeoDiamond burs exceed expectations.

“There are burs out there that are definitely more expensive,” Dr. Caserta said, “but I haven’t found more expensive ones that are necessarily any better. NeoDiamond is a very good value. They’re durable burs that cut efficiently, and they’re competitively priced.”

Pre-sterilized, disposable burs guarantee a fresh cut every time, with no risk of cross-contamination

Burs and polishers in Microcopy's expansive product portfolio are also DPS Best Products thanks to their high quality, versatility, and single-patient-use design

 NeoDiamond Sterilized Burs

What does it take to be a good dentist? Scratch that, what does it take to be a damn good dentist?

Arguably, the most important step is to make sure you have the right tools in hand to set yourself up for success. For the past few decades, Microcopy has been on a mission to do just that, manufacturing high-quality and reliable burs and polishers that countless dentists depend on day in and day out—whether it’s during a preparation, crown adjustment, or final polishing.

NeoDiamond: A Bur to Be Reckoned With

Over the years, virtually every bur and polisher in Microcopy's portfolio, including the 30-year-young NeoDiamond, has been deemed a DPS Best Product by multiple teams of Damn Good Dentists. “I have been using NeoDiamond burs for so long that I have been able to forget how the diamond particles used to fly off the 'Brand X' burs as I was using them,” joked Dr. Sylvia Irwin.

NeoDiamond single-patient-use burs are gamma-sterilized and individually wrapped to minimize contamination. The burs also have 20% more diamond exposure and cut with smooth and sharp margins. “When I use the NeoDiamond brand, I know that I will be able to complete my entire crown prep, and possibly several others if it is a multiunit case, with just one bur,” shared Dr. Irwin

Unbeatable Strength

While some dental professionals remain skeptical that a bur designed for a single use will be as strong and durable as its multiuse counterpart, that hasn’t been a concern for Dr. Irwin.

“When I use NeoDiamond, I don’t see the diamond particles flying off the bur. The tip of the bur remains sharp and the diamond encrusted throughout,” she noted. “With other brands, this is frequently not the case, and it is sometimes difficult to prepare even one crown with a single bur.”

This has proved to Dr. Irwin that the cutting ends of other manufacturers’ burs just don’t work as well as NeoDiamond. Their diamond particles are often depleted before the preparation is complete, which makes creating crown margins difficult.

“NeoDiamonds remain intact and sharp throughout the procedure, so the patient does not experience the discomfort that results from the use of a dull bur,” shared Dr. Irwin. “It also saves me time and money.”

During crown procedures, Dr. Irwin also enjoys using Micro-copy’s Proxi-Chek, a double-sided interproximal articulation film, to check if the proximal contacts of the crown are too tight. It is easy to use, economical, and a great timesaver, according to Dr. Irwin.

“Proxi-Chek provides a very clear and clean indication of where the crown contact is too tight, enabling reduction of only the area of the contact that is binding,” said Dr. Irwin.

NeoBurr 557^2 — Unparalleled Strength

Featuring proprietary blended-neck technology, Microcopy’s NeoBurr 5572 provides a fast, smooth, chatter-free experience. Reinforced for strength, its single-piece construction eliminates the weld point of a traditional bur neck, which is typically the weakest part of the bur.

Dr. Bradley Dykstra used to feel the familiar frustration when his burs would suddenly break at the neck. This has become a problem of the past since he switched to NeoBurr 5572. “I know these burs are dependable and I do not have to worry about them breaking,” he shared.

Dr. Chester Klos agreed and said that in the past, he experienced “breakage of the cutting end from the shank." Microcopy solved this problem “by creating a product that is one material, eliminating the weld joint, which was the weak link," he added.

During third-party testing, the 5772 carbide was shown to be up to 70% stronger than competing burs, even when it comes into contact with restorative materials like metal. One dentist, Dr. Albert Clark, was so curious as to how much pressure the NeoBurr 5572 could withstand that he purposely attempted to break one with excessive force and torque. His experiment proved that the bur is highly durable. “The cut is smoother and requires less pressure than other burs we are using," he said.

A Simple Way to Keep Patients Safe

At a time when patients are more closely examining the instruments and materials used during treatment, relying on single-patient-use burs and polishers is a simple way to show patients that their safety is your top priority.

Pre-sterilized, disposable burs guarantee a fresh cut every time, with no risk of cross-contamination

No matter what job you have or in what industry, it never hurts to keep an eye out for ways to do it better. In dentistry, that often means keeping an open mind and being willing to try different types of products that have been proven to solve problems by clinicians just like yourself. A great example of this would be to look at the many benefits of incorporating single-patient-use (SPU) burs into your workflow.

“I made the switch to Microcopy burs because I became interested in a disposable, single-patient-use diamond that would retain its cutting edge throughout my procedure,” explained Dr. Shalom Mehler, who discovered the value of disposable burs after using Microcopy. “I realized disposable burs could save my staff time in sterilization and allow me to remain on the ‘cutting edge’ throughout the procedure.”

- Shalom Mehler, DMD

For 50 years, Microcopy has been dedicated to creating innovative products for efficient, safe, and simple dentistry. Today, the company enjoys a dedicated and growing following of doctors they call “Damn Good Dentists,” clinicians who have committed themselves to patient safety and superior care.

Increasing Patient Comfort During Challenging Times

The benefits of SPU burs are plenty. Along with the fact that these instruments guarantee a fresh cut and superior hardness every time, they are individually packaged, so there is no risk of cross-contamination. This is a key benefit in today’s post-COVID era, when every practice is striving for the highest level of infection control possible.

“While dentists have always been at the forefront of infection control, the pandemic has forced us to take it to yet another level that must be visible to the patient,” said Dr. Mehler, adding that, COVID aside, he also treats a number of dentist-phobic individuals. “Using Microcopy disposable burs has allowed me to treat these patients in a quicker manner, which reduces stress levels all around.”

John Horn, DMD, noted that opening a fresh, brand-new bur in front of his patients can leave a positive psychological impact. “Some patients have enough dental anxiety without worrying about whether their dentist’s equipment is sterile,” he said. “Disposable burs just look a whole lot better than burs that have been sterilized multiple times."

A FAST-CUTTING, SINGLE-PATIENT-USE BUR FOR EVERY PROCEDURE

Featuring advanced Triton bonding technology that allows bur tips to cut crisp, clear margins, NeoDiamond’s performance is comparable to more expensive multiuse diamonds, minus the fear of cross-contamination between patients or the hassle of sterilizing after every use.

Designed to cut smoothly at a consistent depth, NeoDiamond Z-Class diamond burs easily reduce zirconia restorations and achieve a smooth, esthetic finish. The diamond burs do not leave deep striations in the adjusted surface, so polishing becomes quick and efficient.

NeoBurr carbides provide a fast, smooth, chatter-free experience. In addition to more blade contact for an ideal cutting ability without clogging up the blades, most Microcopy carbides are designed with blended neck technology for high strength and durability.
